Hammy Fammy Picture

This weekend was great! We had our first babysitter. Luke's mom came in to watch Will while we attended the Andrews twin's birthday party. The twins are so beautiful and had a wonderful time at their 1st birthday party as did us grown ups!

When we got home we took a family picture together. Its the first one we've taken since we got home from the hospital. Its always hard to be in pictures when you are the one behind the camera...so luckily we were able to have someone else take it for a change.

Almost 3 weeks old!

Tomorrow Will is going to be 3 weeks old. Its hard to believe that 3 weeks ago I was walking around with his feet jabbed into my ribs. He was born at 6lbs, 9oz and has already grown to 7 lbs, 7.5 oz. Big Guy!!! He's doing pretty good today. Still gets a little fussy sometimes but we're working on that. Every day we spend time on the floor playing and doing little baby excerises. I love that he has started smiling (or smirking I should say). Here is a picture of him doing some floor time and squirming around. He's a squirmer!!

Why Do Babies Cry?

I have heard from most people that parents will start to recognize their childs crying. One cry may mean they are hunger...another that they need their diaper changed. But what does the one mean when they are screaming so loud (after eating and diaper change) and with such force that you have no idea what do to next? Will did that last night for a couple of hours. We walked with him, snuggled him (which all temporarily worked). But as soon as we put him down he was screaming again. We finally got him to go to bed and of course he's out like a light this morning. I think he might be a night owl! Like his mom...used to be...

Happy First Father's Day Luke!

Today is Luke's first Father's Day and I certainly think there is reason to celebrate. Luke has taken to fatherhood very well. Will and I are so proud of him.

We gave him his present yesterday b/c we just couldn't wait until today. We were too excited. We gave him 4 books that a dad would be happy to read his child. We read Hop on Pop to Will last night.

Ok - so here is how the first week has gone...

Monday went really well...and we talked about how great it was and that pretty much jinxed us. Tuesday, Will was sleeping really well during the day so we decided to let him sleep...we woke him for feedings but he was up all night!!! And so were we of course! Wednesday was a little better, Thursday was not so great (I think we stimulated Will too much during the day and he was just restless from not getting enough sleep during the day). But what do I know - I'm so new to this. Luke is at work today and should be home soon. I'm always so relieved when he gets here. Its just so nice having him around and Will loves to hear his voice.

So overall...we are getting the hang of it but still have a lot of kinks to work out.

New Parents

Here are some pictures of us with Will. As you can see Luke is a natural!! I look horrible! I could really use a tan. I lost a lot of blood during delivery so we'll use that excuse for my coloring. Hahaha!

You can pick your friends...

Luke took this picture of our precious little boy picking his nose...how...um..."sweet".

First of all...I am soooo sorry that I haven't gotten to talk with everyone or visit. The last few days have been really rough and didn't go as planned. Also, all my email contacts are on my work computer and my account was disabled so I haven't been able to email anyone either.
We checked in Tuesday night...notice how I have color in the pre-delivery pictures...notice that I do not in the post delivery pictures...what gives!!

I was induced Wednesday morning (this all happened very fast) so we didn't have alot of time to prepare. Things were going pretty well (especially after the epidural) until it was time to deliver. The baby was in a position that was impossible to get him out and his heart rate was tanking after every contraction. I was rushed to the OR for an emergency c-section. I know doctors do this all the time...but when they started to panic and use words like "stat" and "hurry, hurry" and "we have to go RIGHT NOW"...Luke and I both started to get really scared. I was pretty drugged up but when Luke got to the OR room I felt so much better. The baby came out screaming and we were very happy.

Now, the drama continued. Baby was good but something was going on with me...I honestly can't tell you what it was but we could here the doctors and nurses discussing some things and even arguing a little. My heart rate also tanked...but all was good after a while. Again...I have no idea what was going on and neither did Luke. At this point, we don't care!!! We're both healthy.

William Luke Hammond was born on June 4, 08 at 3:16pm weighing 6lbs, 9oz, 18.5 inches. He's amazing and we're so in love with him.

Recovery is going slow. I'm not going to lie to you...I'm in a lot of pain!! We will be here until Sunday. We would stay here all month if they would let us. Luke is doing awesome and is a natural daddy. We're learning new things everyday about our little guy. He looks like both Luke and I...so of course he's handsome!!!

I'll post more pictures when we can. And we'd love to see you all soon!! Please email us at terry.hammond@charter.net so we can have your email information on this account. (Since I can't get to my work account!)

Thank you for your prayers and support. Talk to everyone soon!

Love, Terry, Luke and Will

OK - so I haven't posted in awhile...I know. But alot has been going on. And now, its time! I went to the Dr. today, like I usually do three times a week, only to find out that I will be induced on Wednesday. Well, I wasn't expecting that at all...so naturally...panic set in. I called Luke, laughing, then crying, then laughing, you get the idea. I really thought I had another week left but they want to take him at 38 weeks due to the gestational diabetes. Part of me is happy b/c I want to meet Will soooo bad and I'm really sick of his feet being in my ribs...but then there is the other part of me that really isn't sure what to do. I know everything will work out perfectly.

I think we'll save the hospital visits for family and home visits for friends. Since this is our first time, I think we would really like to take it easy and learn as much as we can from the staff. Luke is just so thrilled.

Here are a few pictures we've taken over the last few weeks.

This one was taken Sunday...believe it or not...using the automatic timer on the camera!

The next one was taken on Memorial Day. Not my best...but I'd been cleaning, napping and eating (and that takes work ya know!)

The next post will be pictures of Will. I will get them added just as soon as I can. I promise. The clock is officially ticking. Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive through these last 9 months. I will definitely be ready to get my body back!! :)
